The customer always nose best, as they say, and what better way to attract your audience’s attention than through a scentsational ad?
Scent printing offers innovative and powerful ways to generate interest among consumers of all kind – and species.
As one of our recent projects demonstrates, these aromatic tricks of the trade aren’t just for human prospects. Our furry companions can smell 10,000 to 100,000 times more acutely than their human counterparts, making them the purrfect audience for olfactory-based ads.
Human’s Best Friend Gets a Seat at the Marketing Table
H&H Graphics recently created scented posters to promote a line of airline-approved pet carriers. Smelling of catnip, beef, and cedar, these unique ads were placed at “nose level” in pet parks throughout four pet-dense cities: Boston, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.
The posters, featured in Ad Week, attract the attention of pets with alluring smells. As any pet owner can attest, pulling your furry friend away from an enticing smell can take a combination of encouragement, bribery, and a gentle tug of the leash. These posters were designed to leave pet owners with no choice but to investigate the source of distraction.
Regardless of species, scent marketing is an effective, ‘nose-catching’ strategy for any product, packaging or promotion where ordinary just won’t do.
Creativity Has No Limits with Multisensory Marketing
At H&H, our R&D team loves a challenge. We have over 800 stock scents to choose from and can also create custom scents if you don’t see what you are looking for on our list. We’re not kidding: we once created moose poop scented scratch-off maps for a reality tv show promotion.
From a ‘new-car’ scented ad that landed on Ad Age Magazine’s “Editor’s Pick” list to taco scented wrapping paper to moose-poop, we can create just about anything you can dream up.
Here are just a few examples to give you an idea of how smelly it can get around here:
- Apple Pie
- Wine
- Firecracker
- Skunk
- Dirt
- Denim
- Money
- Bubble Gum
- Mildew
- Freshly Cut Grass
Dollars & Scents: Grow Sales with Multisensory Printing
Scented special effects printing isn’t just for fun; there’s science to back it up. Research has shown that smells improve memories, increase sales, and evoke positive emotions in consumers. In one study from Washington State University, scientists found that people spent 20% more while shopping in the presence of a simple, pleasing scent.
Screen printing is particularly effective at reproducing long-lasting, high-quality scents, which can be applied to packaging, posters, book covers, gift cards, greeting cards, and more. And when you combine scent with other multisensory printing effects like texture, glitter and inks that reveal a hidden message when exposed to light, heat or water – you multiply the opportunities for consumer engagement.
Whether your customers are canine, feline, or human, we can help you find (or create) the right scent and other special effects to draw the attention of your target market and grow your sales. Give us a call or click on the link below to get started.
